A sensitivity reading is suggested when an author does not have firsthand experience with a community or culture feature in their manuscript. The reading evaluates how diverse voices, identities, and experiences are represented within the text. 

Topics I Read For:

• Women’s issues and feminism 

What I Look For: 

• Harmful stereotypes and characterisation 
• Biases 
• Misrepresentation 
• Problematic language 
• Tokenism 

Please note: sensitivity reading relies upon a reader’s experience with certain topics. Due to this subjective nature, a singular sensitivity reader cannot speak for all individual experience regarding the chosen topics. 

Final Product:

• Annotated manuscript: I use Microsoft Word’s comment feature to make suggestions for your manuscript. 
• A reader’s report: This report is a document outlining all that I notice and all the changes I suggest in a clear and concise manner.
