Faced with the energy and climate crises, France is seeking to produce more “clean” energy, which does not emit greenhouse gases. The strategy adopted? Acceleration in renewable energies, but also in nuclear. Traveling to Saint-Nazaire last Thursday to inaugurate the country's first offshore wind farm, Emmanuel Macron announced that he wanted to go "much faster" in the construction of six new generation nuclear reactors (while 27 reactors out of the 56 currently under construction service are stopped for maintenance). But for many experts, nuclear is far from being an ecological energy. In particular, they point the finger at the risk of accidents, or even the highly radioactive waste that humans are not able to eliminate. This explains why some states are closing their power stations. Last Friday, Belgium thus launched its nuclear phase-out plan by closing a reactor at the Doel power plant, near Antwerp.
