Most young children worldwide get too much screen time, negatively impactingtheir sleep, vision, development and emotional stability. The team behind StoryPhones aims to help parents reduce screen time and control content while fostering children’s listening skills and love of stories. Kids can snap small magnetic “StoryShield” discs onto the side of the wireless headphones to listen to stories from content providers like Disney or Penguin Random House. “ZenShields” play soothing sounds. But for Petur Olaffson, founder and CEO of Hong Kong-based Onanoff, the product’s most meaningful feature is “PlayShields,” which allow parents or grandparents to record their own stories for children to play, passing down tales “from one generation to the next.”
