Our culture has reached an impasse. We have polarized our society and strive to bend the opposing side to the other's will. I believe this to be the prominent stumbling block of our age, and we must work towards a solution, for this is not just an argument of politics, but of morality itself. We are all aware of the key social arguments taking place today and how each side has become so combative that the fight no longer is about the topic itself but about defeating the enemy. This is not to say that we should not take sides; we all develop a unique moral compass, an ethos, but it should tell us that we need to reign in our desire to impose our personal will on others and start listening again. Hard lines drawn in the sand are necessary at times but our social issues and the polarization of the North American population is bread predominantly from a lack of understanding.
