"The problem is in the Chancellery": Green politician Hofreiter has attacked the Ukraine policy of Prime Minister Scholz head-on – party leader Nouripour now felt compelled to react.

The Green leadership has distanced itself from the criticism of chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) by its member of the Bundestag Anton Hofreiter. The chairman of the European Affairs Committee had accused Scholz of a lack of leadership in Ukraine policy. This is "not the line of Bündnis90/Die Grünen," said party leader Omid Nouripour on Thursday in Berlin. The coalition is very close to each other in order to meet the immense current challenges. Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock are talking to each other around the clock about the war in Ukraine. "We are very grateful for an extremely close cooperation in this federal government on this matter," said Nouripour. The situation is too serious for party-political thinking, the government is closed.

Hofreiter had called for Scholz's movement in Ukraine policy. "The problem is in the Chancellery," said the Chairman of the European Committee of the Bundestag in the program "RTL Direkt". We must now finally start to supply Ukraine with what it needs, and that is also heavy weapons." Germany must also stop blocking the energy embargo, especially for oil and coal. Scholz speaks of a turning point, but does not implement them sufficiently, criticized Hofreiter. »And that takes a lot more leadership.«

The SPD parliamentary group chairman Rolf Mützenich also reacted critically to these demands: "There are no simple answers, even for the delivery of heavy military equipment to Ukraine. Anyone who claims this is acting irresponsibly." The images and reports about the war in Ukraine are terrible and disturbing. Under the impression of visits to the ground, "to demand unprecedented decisions without having to answer for them is wrong – especially since these could have far-reaching consequences for the security of our country and NATO," Mützenich explained.
