The rare disease returns to the fore

Health authorities have renewed the warning of "alopecia syndrome". It is a disease described as mysterious and has been reported to have affected more than 15 Americans so far.

In 2020, health experts in the United States warned of the emergence of this new disease that primarily affects men, but the warning did not receive enough attention in light of the Corona pandemic controlling everyone's concern.

This disease is a rare health disorder that leads to inflammation in the body. due to genetic mutations.

The discovery of the disease was announced for the first time in the newspaper "NEJM" specialized in medical affairs, by researchers at the US National Institutes of Health.

The study indicated, at that time, that the list of injured included only 25 men, while there were no women with "Fixas" syndrome.

A recent medical study published in the journal "JAMA": The disease is more prevalent than believed. It affects 1 in 4 men over the age of 000.

The researchers discovered that all 25 patients had a genetic mutation in a gene called "UBA1", and this is the origin of the new disease, which has become known as the "enemy of men".

The list of symptoms includes "high body temperature, low blood cell count, infections, itching, coughing, swelling and pain in the ear, nose, and joints, difficulty breathing, feeling tired, anemia, and blood clotting."

The data showed that people with advanced age are more likely to develop the disease, and women may suffer from this health disorder, and therefore they are not completely safe from infection.

The disease affects 1 in 26 women over the age of 50.

Experts explained that the disease gradually enters the body, then gets worse and becomes fierce and fatal over time, and therefore it is not just a passing disorder.

It is estimated that a person suffering from this genetic disease has a life expectancy of 10 years.

Experts fear that many people have failed to diagnose the disease. Because its symptoms are similar to many other diseases such as itching and heat.

The disease can be detected with a genetic blood test, while it can be treated with steroids and other immunosuppressive drugs that help relieve symptoms.

Current hurdles in facing this disease include that a large number of physicians themselves do not know anything about this health disorder and, therefore, may not alert patients when they come in for treatment.

There is currently no available and licensed drug that completely eradicates the disease, but current medical medications are limited to relieving symptoms.

Treatment of Vexas disease may become available in the future through bone marrow transplantation or gene-editing therapies.
