killed inside a home Monday afternoon. Deputies received a report of shots being fired at around 4:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, the suspect opened fire. Deputies shot back, killing the suspect. Once able to get inside the home, deputies found three people dead.

Several Buncombe County residents have filed complaints with the EPA after they say Duke Energy sprayed chemicals near their homes. A Duke Energy spokesperson says it’s a standard procedure and the products used are safe for humans and animals. Homeowners say they should have the right to refuse chemicals being sprayed so close to houses.

Investigators are working to determine how a barn fire started in Canton. It happened at around 4 a.m. Monday morning on Beaverdam Street. Officials say the barn was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
