Trial for defamation : after his victory

$10/hr Starting at $25

After the victory won Wednesday by Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard in a U.S. court, the star of "Pirates of the Caribbean" could revive his acting career. But it seems unlikely that he will quickly become the darling of Hollywood studios.

Victorious in court, and soon back on the big screen? After emerging victorious on Wednesday, June 1, of his trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp could relaunch his acting career.

"The jury gave me back my life," Johnny Depp exulted after the verdict that awarded him $15 million in damages for defamatory comments made by Amber Heard. His ex-wife, who was counter-suing in the same trial in Virginia, only got $2 million - also for defamation.

Experts said on the stand that Johnny Depp had suffered, as a result of the statements of Amber Heard, a loss of earnings of more than $ 22 million by losing his role in the sixth installment of "Pirate of the Caribbean" - which he played the character Jack Sparrow.

The lawyers of his ex-wife, however, produced witnesses assuring that the star of her ex-husband had already faded long before that due to "unprofessional behavior", related in particular to his consumption of alcohol and drugs.

"The damage is done, and from there could begin a process of returning to some normality," says a Hollywood producer who has worked with Johnny Depp in the past.

"But I don't think he's going to get any really, really big deals with the studios, with everything that's at stake," he tells AFP on condition of anonymity. "If he throws bottles and takes drugs, that he is not on time, they are not going to accept delays that cost such a large amount of money from someone whose star is no longer in the firmament," analyzes this producer.

According to him, the big studios could have difficulties to assure expensive productions in which would appear Johnny Depp. "Now, it's too risky to take a guy like this in franchises that count in billions of dollars," he says.
