Windows-to-Linux Org Migration

$150/hr Starting at $1K

This service migrates your organization from Windows to Linux — endpoints, user environments, and server infrastructure — while ensuring that business-critical applications continue to work throughout. The goal is a clean Linux-first environment. Where a Linux-native or web-based alternative exists for an application you're currently running on Windows, that's the path we take. Where one doesn't exist — QuickBooks Desktop, Sage, industry-specific software — those applications are preserved and delivered through a VDI layer so users still have access without keeping Windows on their physical workstations.

The migration is delivered as a per-seat engagement. Each seat includes application compatibility assessment, workstation configuration, user environment setup, and cutover. Server infrastructure is included based on user count. VDI infrastructure is only provisioned if your application stack actually requires it — it's not added by default.

This is not a template deployment. Every organization has different application dependencies, network configurations, and user workflows. The migration plan is built around what your staff actually uses.

What's included per seat:

  • Full application inventory and compatibility assessment — each application is evaluated for a Linux-native equivalent, browser-based replacement, or VDI requirement

  • Linux workstation build and user environment configuration

  • Data migration from Windows user profile

  • For applications with no viable Linux alternative: VDI session setup and delivery (Kasm Workspaces, Apache Guacamole, Citrix Virtual Apps, or Microsoft RDS — platform selected to fit your environment)

  • User acceptance testing and sign-off per seat

  • Basic end-user documentation for the Linux environment

What's included per server:

  • Server provisioning and OS installation

  • VDI platform setup if required (configured only for the applications that need it)

  • Integration with your existing network and identity environment

  • Basic hardening and documentation

Pricing structure:

  • $1,000 per seat — includes workstation migration, application compatibility assessment, and VDI delivery for Windows-only apps where required

  • 1 server included with the first 10 users

  • +1 additional server per 50 users beyond the first 10

  • $800 per extra workstation not paired with a user seat (kiosks, shared terminals, lab machines)

What's NOT included:

  • Hardware (servers, workstations, networking gear) — procurement and costs are the client's responsibility

  • Software licensing fees for any retained commercial applications or VDI platforms requiring paid licenses (Citrix, RDS CALs, etc.)

  • SaaS subscription costs

  • Ongoing managed services or support after migration is complete (separate retainer)
