The current standard for drug education is a morality based program of "just say no because I said so" and as the evidence demonstrates, it is entirely ineffective. The best way to get a kid to do something is to tell them not to. My program is based on science and facts, blended in to the cautionary tale that is my personal story of drug addiction. Morality is subjective, and can be negotiated. Facts are indisputable. Providing kids with accurate information allows them to make educated, informed decisions. When they understand the true dangers of narcotics from a scientific point of view, it is much harder for them to convince themselves that picking up hard drugs is a good idea. My program focuses specifically on opioids, meaning prescription painkillers and street heroin. This is my area of expertise and frankly it is the area that should be of most concern to parents, schools, and other youth organizations right now. The abuse of opioids is in epidemic proportions right now and it is vital that it is addressed at the youngest age possible. I am happy to modify my program for any age group from elementary school to high school and even college aged students. Because this is a science based program, adults can often benefit from it as well. I am happy to teach this program to parent groups and teachers as well. This program is best taught in small, classroom settings however it can be adapted for a larger audience.
