Please listen to my short video as it will fully explain the process and my fees. Since I made it though, I now charge only $50 for each 5K words. EX: 5,000 words= $50. 10,000 words= $100. This makes it very easy to know exactly what you will be paying in advance and every client is charged exactly the same no matter what type of edit is done. I figure, if I'm reading it and I think it needs more work, I'll just help you get it where it needs to be. After all, I'm working with you and I love what I do.
I have been a journalist, author and editor for more than 35 years and edited more than 400 books. Many of my clients and former clients are part of the 5,000 people on my Facebook and at least 300 of my references are on Linked-In. I do not put work collections on here deliberately because I do not show the "mistakes" I correct for my authors; or even that they have had editing services unless they allow me to put their finished books on my web pages. Having more than 12,000 newspaper and magazines bylines myself, I also do short writing pieces but I do not ghost write whole books. I use only flat fees, no hourly, because I don't know how a client could possibly know how many hours an editor works on his or her manuscript. Rates are based on manuscripts more than 50 pages, presented in double-or-space-and-a-half 12-point type in a regular (not exotic or script) font. My manuscript rates are $50 for each 5,000-word block in a manuscript more than 5,000 words and cover everything from syntax (the way words are put together), correcting errors, like verb/noun tense or unrealistic dialogue. I also suggest changes in wording for clarity and emphasis and make comments that coach you through not only the manuscript I am working on, but that you can carry with you when you write again. It doesn't matter if it is a developmental edit- a line-item edit- or whatever. I do whatever is needed on the manuscript, suggesting changes in comment boxes and do mark-up in TRACK CHANGES, where one color denotes deletions and another additions you can easily spot. You get to approve that, and then I send you a black copy that has been spell-checked, checked for spacing and finally checked for a smooth read. I edit in American English, (which is called Chigaco Style by publishers) British English, or Associated Press (used for magazines and newspapers). EX: if your manuscript is 10K, it is a flat $100. 20K would be 4 times the $50 (for 5K) and would be $200. White papers, short stories and other work (than manuscripts) are charged by difficulty, with a minimum price of $50. It's easy enough. Half down in SafePay when we sign the agreement and the rest at satisfactory completion.
