I love clear, accurate UK English writing that successfully informs, educates, entertains or expresses opinions or feelings.

I've spent 25 years teaching English and Sociology in UK secondary schools, both selective and non-selective. I taught English language and literature and specialised in working with A-level students (aged 16 - 18) helping them to get good grades and good places in Universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. I also got very involved in introducing younger students (11 - 16) to the world of work, which meant arranging for speakers from commerce and industry to come and talk to them, arranging work experience placements for Year 9 students and designing projects linking school and work. One of these involved 13 year old students spending a week in a company which manufactured stair carpets, finding about the whole manufacturing process and then amazing the manager by suggesting some valid ways in which they could improve their performance AND protect the environment! And, of course, writing it all down clearly and persuasively. Another project got twelve year old students writing epistolary novels with the help of local companies and also learning about making and illustrating their books from a publishing company. Some of my other experiences included editing school magazines and producing other school publications, writing articles and finally moving into the field of counselling where I have been working online with young people and face-to-face with all ages and issues. I moved from the UK to South Africa, my country of birth, in 2007.
