I didn't plan to become a medical writer. I planned to be a doctor and for years, that's exactly what I was working towards.
I graduated from King Edward Medical University (KEMU), one of Pakistan's most prestigious medical institutions, and went on to work across multiple hospital departments at Mayo Hospital. I worked in Paediatrics, Surgery, Medicine, and Ophthalmology at Mayo Hospital. I also worked for 4 years in the Medicine Department at Avicenna Hospital. I took histories, wrote SOAP notes, managed patient profiles, and stood at bedsides through diagnoses that changed lives in an instant.
But something stayed with me long after the ward rounds ended.
It was the confusion on patients' faces.
A doctor would deliver a diagnosis confidently, clinically, correctly and walk away. And the patient would be left sitting there, nodding, pretending to understand, when really they had no idea what had just happened to them or what it meant for their life. I watched it happen again and again. Intelligent, capable people reduced to silence by terminology they had never encountered and explanations they had never been given.
That gap between what medicine knows and what patients understand became something I could not stop thinking about.
I had always loved words as much as I loved medicine. Reading was never just a hobby for me; it was how I made sense of the world. I was fascinated by technology and how knowledge travels, how information reaches people, how a well written sentence can do what a clinical consultation sometimes cannot: make someone truly understand.
So I made a decision. I would use everything medicine had taught me i.e the clinical training, the hospital experience, the years of learning of how the human body works and fails and heals and I would put it into writing that actually reaches people.
That decision became my profession, and my profession became my purpose.

I am not a writer who researches medicine. I am a medically trained professional who writes.
That distinction matters more than it might seem. When I write about cardiac emergencies, I draw on my PHECC accredited Cardiac First Response training and my BLS certification under Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 . When I write about diabetes management, I draw on clinical exposure from Mayo Hospital's training. When I write about trauma and critical care, I draw on KEMU's Golden Hour trauma training. When I write about respiratory disease, I draw on hands on asthma and tuberculosis education from professional medical settings.
My writing covers a wide clinical range ; emergency medicine, cardiology, chronic disease, endocrinology, respiratory health, infectious disease, and public health because my training does too.
