About

Where volatility meets strategy: Building resilient commercial performance in every market cycle.

Brian Bengtson is an accomplished energy market leader and strategic advisor with more than two decades of experience guiding organizations through complex commodity market environments, commercial transformations, and risk management challenges. Known for his deep expertise in natural gas, NGL, and crude oil market fundamentals, Brian has built a career helping companies navigate volatility, optimize monetization strategies, and strengthen commercial performance across the value chain.

Brian most recently served as Senior Director and Advisor for Marketing and Commodity Risk Management at BKV Corporation, where he led all commercial activities related to hydrocarbon monetization across the Barnett and Marcellus assets. He designed and executed the corporation’s financial hedge portfolio, delivering more than $100 million in realized gains in 2024 and supporting a successful IPO during one of the most challenging natural gas price environments in recent history. Brian also spearheaded a $15–$20 million corporate transformation, bringing physical marketing in‑house through a comprehensive redesign of organizational structure, processes, governance, and ETRM systems.

Prior to BKV, Brian held leadership roles at Antero Resources, Ovintiv (formerly Encana), and Encana Corporation, where he advised executive teams and boards on market fundamentals, price risk mitigation, transportation strategy, and long‑term commercial planning. His work has shaped billion‑dollar asset strategies, optimized regional basis exposure, enhanced netbacks across multiple basins, and guided major corporate initiatives including portfolio rationalization, M&A strategy, and operational planning.

Brian’s career is defined by his ability to blend analytical rigor with strategic clarity. He is recognized as a trusted advisor who excels at cross‑functional collaboration, executive communication, and building high‑performance teams. His expertise spans front‑, mid‑, and back‑office functions, financial and physical marketing, credit and market risk, ETRM modernization, and commercial midstream strategy.

Brian holds a Master of Science in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a Petroleum Engineering minor from the Colorado School of Mines. He is currently expanding his technical capabilities through MIT coursework in machine learning and Python programming.

Today, Brian provides consulting services to energy companies seeking strategic guidance in commodity risk management, commercial transformation, and market fundamentals—helping organizations make confident decisions, strengthen resilience, and unlock long‑term value.
