About

Education, Experience, Adventure

I have made a career out of combining my passions: education, travel, and adventure. I've taught English and Humanities in traditional, public, private, and international schools, built and led a secondary outdoor school, and instructed high school graduates on a gap semester through Asia. I was a river expedition guide in Colorado and Utah, an international traveler, and a regional director of international programs for teens.

I am a big-picture thinker and love finding ways to translate adventure and deep experiences into meaningful lessons for the students in the world who have the most to gain. I'm deeply concerned with the state of education and deeply interested in using my experience and passion to support teachers, to push education toward strategies that work, rather than systems that do not, and to reach more students with curriculum that helps them to explore the real world and apply they're learning.

With that in mind, I'm taking to freelance education. Here's a short list of work I'm looking to do:
-Develop curriculum, units, or programs for educators who want to incorporate more experiential education
-Build expedition and travel program itineraries for the purpose of education
-Coach teachers on experiential learning
-Build professional development for schools looking to incorporate experiential learning
-Align curriculum to standards, proficiencies, or school outcomes
-Connect educators to the amazing people I know around the world (Morocco, Cuba, Mexico, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, China)

Work Terms

I work weekdays from my home. I can take face-to-face consultations between 8 and 3pm (MDT), and asynchronous work any other time. I am willing to travel near or far for consultations, professional development sessions, and to coach educators. I charge an hourly rate for small projects, or can bid larger projects as they come. Client pays for travel at the IRS rate.
