IBM i (iSeries - AS/400) COBOL development expert

For more than 30 years I have played an active role in helping organizations through the design and development of core COBOL applications on the IBM i (iSeries - AS/400) platform.

I have gained extensive knowledge and experience working with Cobol/400 and DB2/400, both Native DDS and SQL (interactive and embedded), as well as CL commands and programming, Data file and Object commands, Display Files, Data Areas, Data Queues, Query/QMQuery, IFS, Job management and Batch processing, and have been the focal point for providing solutions for systems software and database design, and integration, performance, migration and modernization issues.

In recent years I played a leading role in a large-scale modernization project at a leading Insurance group, serving as Lead Architect/Developer responsible for designing and developing a software framework that was used to create several core business applications. The framework was developed in Cobol/400 and enabled developers to define and generate Cobol/400 applications using metadata definitions (data structures and business logic). My responsibilities included managing the development team, performing Design/Code review, training, and providing solutions for performance and database issues, continuously interacting with business users, QA and IT managers to ensure delivery and project success.

Through my experience in helping to bridge the gap between existing and new technologies, I eventually gained experience in Web development (Java EE, OO-Cobol, Angular/Ionic, Node.js), and working with other databases such as Oracle, SQLServer, Firebase, Parse Server, MongoDB and Redis.

Throughout the years I have provided ongoing training and mentoring services in OS/400, Cobol/400, and SQL/400.

Work Terms

$30 per hour, no minimum
