During my many years of grad school studying ancient history, I worked just about every part time job I could find that allowed me time to do my research, which is how I first got into editing. The museum I worked at had numerous international scholars in residence at the time, and I began editing their manuscripts for publication, including some occasional translation work. This led me to freelancing, editing college admissions essays, doctoral dissertations, and my colleagues’ academic essays. I was also working as a writing instructor, teaching undergrads how to write analytical essays and support their arguments with well explained evidence. And, of course, I did my own writing, generating research papers for class, some of which became articles in my field, doing odd jobs like book reviews and museum catalog entries, and writing creative fiction to keep me sane! I’ve continued to freelance since and love to challenge my skills as a writer and editor.
