About

Experienced, low-cost editing for self publishers and new authors looking to polish manuscripts before submission.

In college, I focused on English literature and composition. I couldn't wrap my brain around science and math, so after maxing out the available English classes, I dropped out and started a career in retail management. I worked for four years as the managing editor for a Christian publishing house that was absorbed into Defender Publishing when the owner had a baby, and have been freelancing ever since. I specialize in editing complex fiction works that require a keen eye for cohesive details and continuity, but have had much success with nonfiction works as well. When editing, I look at grammatical issues as well as storyline ones, performing both editing and proofreading functions. I am necessarily rough because I don't believe in publishing anything that isn't finely tuned. I am, however, very good at what I do and can give you at least two different suggestions to fix any problems I may find. If you are thin-skinned and cannot take constructive criticism aimed exclusively at making your work stronger, I'm most likely not the editor for you. If you're looking for someone that can refine what you've created into something that people will want to read and will recommend to their friends, I'm definitely your editor.

Work Terms

I work full-time as a manager for Barnes & Noble, so my turnaround time is generally two weeks. Larger, more intricate works may take an extra week. Initial correspondence will be made through email, and when we start working together I will give you my phone number for faster text conversations. I can accept Microsoft Word or Google Docs files, as both the Track Changes and Comment functions in Word translate back to Google seamlessly. We will discuss exact terms after I review a two-page sample of the work you'd like edited (to establish an accurate timeline for completion), but my rate is generally $2 per Microsoft Word-formatted page, with a minimum of $200. Exceptionally raw works may merit up to an additional $1 per page. I can keep you apprised with daily or weekly updates (your choice), but be aware that daily updates will likely come in the middle of the night as my shifts at Barnes are almost exclusively closing shifts. When I return the final edit to you, I will include a comprehensive list of any overarching obstacles or inconsistencies. A second read-through of the work is included with my quote to review revisions based off of my initial edit. Further reviews can be negotiated after that on a per-page basis.
