I am a native English speaker who resides in South Africa.
My highest level of education is a BA degree from the University of Pretoria majoring in English and Psychology, with Afrikaans and Art History as sub-majors and French and Philosophy at first-year level.
A highly experienced writer, editor and proofreader, I have been chief copy editor of three newspapers and two magazines and a newspaper production editor.
I have also edited books, newsletters and academic theses.
I was a journalist for 10 years before moving into editing and production, so I have researched and written extensively on a wide variety of subjects and am very accustomed to meeting tight deadlines.
My work involved page design for a number of years, including the front pages of several major South African newspapers and one in Namibia.
Although UK English is the standard in South Africa, I am very familiar with US English as I worked extensively with agency copy during my career and lived and studied in the US for two years.
I am now semi-retired and am working from home as a freelance writer and editor.
My interests include hiking, gardening, cooking and pottery and I am a great lover of animals – in fact a lot of my writing has been about animal welfare and conservation.
I have also written theater and film reviews and covered major court cases and politics.
I am at home on a large number of software packages including Microsoft Word, QuarkXpress, Copydesk, Adobe InDesign and Phostoshop.

Work Terms

I am available six to eight hours a day and am capable of working very long hours if a project is urgent. If I am working on a long project I will request milestone payments if possible.
