About

Writing... blogging... journalism...

Having served more than life (over 27 years) in local government finance I had a Damascene moment that led to a career diversion. I now do something I love rather than something I... didn't enjoy as much. I now work as a freelance writer and copy-editor, and with the odd bit of finance work thrown in for good measure.

I've done some formal online training to rid myself of any bad habits I may have picked up in the confines of the Town Hall and can now write and edit like the best of them. Well, perhaps not the *best* of them (I'm no Henry Winter) but I like to think I can string a few words together when the opportunity presents itself.

Along the way I've somehow managed (thanks to Rick Waghorn) to become the editor of a well-known commercial Norwich City FC website called MyFootballWriter.com and am a 'social reporter' for the Metro (online and sometimes in print). And, for the duration of the World Cup, I - along with three others - was handed the blogging reins for the England team. It was a short-term contract!

I still keep the hand in with regard to all things finance and, on a part-time basis, I am the financial controller for two small Norfolk companies called Addiply and 21VC (two more components of the Waghorn empire).

As is the wont of a freelancer, I'm always on the lookout for new assignments and always looking to take on new challenges. To date sport has been my thing but I'v also written for Yahoo TV - amongst others - where I did some TV reviews.

If it's there I'll have a crack at it, I'll do my damnedest to make it good, and I'll have a laugh or two along the way.
