I've been a voracious reader my entire life, devouring everything from urban fantasy to forensic crime thrillers to comic books and manga, but it wasn't until 2016 that I discovered my love for romance novels. I'd been reading romantic fanfiction since 2005 but it took waaay too long to realize that there is a whole unexplored world of published romance novels that contain all the things I love most about fanfiction. Now romance is my favourite genre to read, and I'm constantly finding new authors, characters, and tropes to love.
Along with my love of reading came a love of grammar and spelling. I was constantly noticing errors in the books I was reading and mentally correcting them. I would proofread emails and resumes and essays for friends and family. I'd notice when subtitles and ads and packaging were incorrect.
