On January 3rd, 2013 I received the call that everyone dreads. My dad had passed away. My parent's home had caught on fire and my father didn't make it out. My life would be changed forever. I immediately headed to Philadelphia to be with my mother and siblings. As we mourned we knew we had to plan an appropriate service for my father but we didn't even know where to begin. He was such a great man that we knew anything we did had to be special. He wasn't some famous actor, athlete, or politician. He was Dad, and that's all that has and will ever matter. We did our best to begin collecting ourselves and planning his funeral. When the matter of his obituary came up, I didn't want a generic obituary, I needed his tribute to be amazing...like he had been. I searched the internet to find the "right" person to bring my father to life through words. I couldn't. Then I realized the right person was sitting there all along. Me. I had always been a writer but I had never writtern an obituary. Although I was reluctant, I wrote my father's obituary and even stood up at his funeral and read it. Months later I was informed that I was receiving constant praise for what I had written. I didn't think much of it, I had simply spoke from the heart. Soon, I remembered something my father always told me, "Do something that you love, you don't have time to waste your life doing something that doesn't make you happy." From that, Compassionateobituaries.com was born. I love writing and I love being of service to others. If I can help a family during their time of need, help an independent filmmaker land a distribution deal, or help someone land the job that they so desire, then my mission will have been accomplished.
