Scientist, teacher, data manager and perpetual student.

I've always felt a need to know how things work. Formally trained as a scientist, I have been able to pass on my understanding in simple terms through teaching, tutoring and writing math and physics curriculum. I've done educational talks to the general public and can communicate complex ideas simply at variety of levels.

Through my scientific training I learned proper data handling and analysis techniques. I've worked as a data manager and currently take data for the USGS geomagnetism division. A number of my papers have been published in peer reviewed professional journals.

I am a compulsive organizer, so working with databases came naturally to me. I am best designing both databases and software. One of my strong points is creativity. I approach problems differently, so sometimes see things others don't. For example, my C++ class had teams of students solve a tile-game type puzzle. While most of the class went with a breadth first approach (which quickly bogged down) I combined a stochastic approach with a depth-first model. We determined the moves that were most likely correct, and using a weighting function and were able to solve complex puzzles.

Because of my creative yet logical thought processes I was recruited as a masters student in software engineering. During this time I took a class in data analysis using ArcGIS and found that I enjoy working with the program. so far I've only made a map for the USGS, but am looking forward to making more maps for customers.

Work Terms

I am very much a night person. I generally work from about noon to around 9:30 PM. My best mode of communication is email, though I can do phone and skype if our hours line up.
