To create and elevate the written word to touch the hearts of the audience
Growing up in an isolated place, I entertained myself with extensive reading and story writing at a young age. That led to becoming editor of the award-winning Choate Literary Magazine, an AB degree from Stanford, where I majored in Political Science so I could cherry pick the creative writing and magazine courses, followed by a JD degree at Illinois. Legal writing rewards thoroughness, which was a new skill.
I was a trial lawyer in the Navy, where persuasion skills were at a premium, especially since most of my clients were guilty.
I was a newspaper executive for a group of community publications before recently retiring. I served as a Pulitzer juror for investigative journalism. I worked for United Press International, a wire service, first as an intern in their London and Paris bureaus, and much later as the CEO of the agency in a turnaround effort.
The newspaper company was an early provider of dial-up service. It also launched two glossy magazines, The Chicago Times and Lake, which targeted lifestyle living along lake Michigan.
Work Terms
Very flexible about work hours. I am new to freelancing and expect a rate that reflects that reality. Will start with 25/ hr for first jobs.
