The guru of Services Drafts Michael Laris I have been programming computeres for about 35 years. I started writing Fortran on punch cards in the summer of 1980 while working as a research biochemist. I quickly found a calling as a computer programmer and have worked professionally as a computer programmer since 1983. While I have learned many languages and systems over the last 3 decades, the past 15 years been spent working mostly with Object Oriented languages, such as C++ and Java. For the last 5 years, I have worked almost exclusively in Java.My "day job" is Lead Application Developer at a major retailer, where I work on very large and sophisticated Java-based POS (Point-of-Sale) system.I am looking for small contracts with short durations that can be done on evenings and weekeds. I will consider larger, long term contracts, as long as there is a clear understanding that I have no more than 20 hour per week that I can devote to any freelance project.Regardless of the size of the project, I believe in doing a thourghly professional job. Any code that I write is well documented and well designed. I spent years as a contractor, and was often called in when other contractors had written code that could not be maintained due to lack of internal and external documentation. I am keenly aware that any code I write will have to be maintained, and that maintainence wil most likely be done by someone other than me. I have walked in those shoes before, and will write code that can be maintained.I am passionate about my craft.I am also passionate about animal rescue. I have fostered both dogs and cats for more than 10 years. I volunteer as both a foster and as the Webmaster for both Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue (www.txpyrs.org) and Saint Bernard Rescue Foundation of Texas (www.saintrescuetx.org). Work Terms I will work primary outside of normal business hours, evenings and weekends. I will accept payments through Guru.com, Paypal.
