Moagi Sharp
My name is Moagi Sharp, and if there's one thread that weaves through the tapestry of my life, it is the profound belief in the indomitable human spirit. I am a writer, a storyteller, driven by the desire to craft narratives that resonate with the triumphs and trials we all face, inviting readers to discover the extraordinary power within their own ordinary human spirit.
My journey has been anything but linear, spanning diverse and demanding fields that have uniquely enriched my perspective. From the strategic world of sports management to the rigors of military service, and most notably, my extensive experience in wrestling, each path has cultivated an intimate understanding of what it truly takes to confront challenges head-on. This unique background deeply enriches my literary voice, shaped by discipline, determination, and an unwavering belief in the power of perseverance.
Wrestling, in particular, has been a cornerstone of my life's philosophy and a profound teacher. As a former coach of the Botswana Wrestling National Team, I witnessed firsthand the grit, resilience, and mental fortitude required to overcome formidable odds. These are lessons that now infuse every character and plot point within my literary work. My technical expertise in the sport is comprehensive; I am a United World Wrestling Level 3 Olympic Wrestling Coach, and a Level 1 and Advanced Level Beach Wrestling Coach and Referee. I have also proudly represented Botswana in wrestling as a sports administrator across the USA, Europe, Asia, and Africa, among other regions.
It was this profound connection to the sport that led me to the presidency of the Botswana Wrestling Federation (BWF). I've poured my heart and soul into introducing and developing wrestling in Botswana, even founding the Wrestling Entertainment Combat Botswana (WECB) to bring professional shows to our nation. My involvement extends beyond our borders; I proudly serve as the President of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Africa Medical Commission, allowing me to contribute to the sport at an international level.
Looking back, I'm particularly humbled by the recognition received for my work in sports leadership. I was deeply honored to be named the 2019 Association Leader of the Year for the entire African continent by the Association of Association Executives based in United Kingdom. This was followed by further accolades in 2022, where I received the Most Community-Focused Sports Association Leader (Southern Africa) and the Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award, honors that speak to the values I hold dear in fostering growth and inclusivity. Beyond wrestling, I had the distinguished honor of being appointed Chief of Mission for Team Botswana for the 2nd African Beach Games, held in Hammamet, Tunisia, in 2023 – a true testament to the broader impact I aim to have in sports development.
My commitment to community engagement also finds expression through music.
