About

BIO

English major with a specialty in creative writing. Three postgraduate courses in English. Maintained 4.0 GPA throughout college. Member of Mensa.

My father was publisher of two newspapers in West Texas. He was quite comfortable letting me write news articles and do proofreading from the time I was 15.

I attended SMU in Dallas, Texas, and then Texas Tech in Lubbock. As a student I won a one-act play competition and got to see it performed. What a kick! While still taking courses at Tech I got a job as copywriter at KLBK-TV in Lubbock. Early on I was hired away by a local advertising agency, and from there I moved to a much larger agency in El Paso.

My husband and I were recruited by an old college pal who had inherited a chain of discount stores headquartered in Midland, Texas. My job was Employee and Public Relations Director, and as such I published the company newsletter and managed a human resources department that served 1,000 employees. I handled all publicity and marketing, including new store openings and events and writing press releases. I wrote the employee handbook, and I ghost-wrote all company correspondence.

When my husband died at a young age, I bought a local print shop. I managed the shop for three years before taking on a partner who helped expand our presence and our services. I subsequently married him, and he assumed daily management of the shop so that I could pursue a career in real estate. I eventually opened my own brokerage office and was very active and productive, all the while keeping a hand in the print shop. Yes, it does get in your blood!

I sold the shop after my husband died, and I am also mostly retired from real estate. I wish to use my newly acquired leisure to write--more specifically to help others write. I so enjoyed working with our printing customers (such a diverse group!) in helping make their content as impactful as their design. I hope to continue writing and editing and eagerly seek freelance assignments.
