I wrote my first poem when I was seven years old. I wrote my first journalism piece at ten. When I was in fifth grade, I knew I wanted to work in storytelling. Every year since, I have dedicated myself to this craft. Now, I want to help make your stories the best they can be.
My experience as an editor spans genres. In academia, I wore multiple hats as the research assistant to Dr. Justin P. McBrayer: copy editor, fact checker, proofreader. I made sure his book, "Beyond Fake News", was clear enough for a popular audience while not sacrificing accuracy or validity. I also copyedited a multi-author paper for Dr. Michael Rendon in order to maintain clarity, as several authors on the paper had English as a second language.
I was a contributing editor for IMAGES Magazine, based from Fort Lewis College. I reviewed submissions such as play excerpts, short stories, creative nonfiction, and poetry. I was the lead poetry copyeditor, and I ensured edits made to accepted submissions would maintain the writer's voice. I am also a two-time juror for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, where I vote on the best submissions by today's young writers.
I interned with the award-winning High Country News as a fact checker, where I confirmed sources for pieces like "Colorado throws wolves to the vote" by Ethan Linck. I spoke with interviewees to confirm their identities, and I utilized newspaper databases to find first hand accounts. With OUT FRONT Magazine, I worked with young interns to help perfect their writing, and I was an intern myself.
But to be an editor, I think you have to be a writer as well. My work can be found in OUT FRONT Magazine, PLEASER Magazine, New Noise Magazine, and Raandoom. My poetry was published in Twenty Bellows' inaugural "We Are the West" anthology. Today, I write short speculative fiction, arts & culture criticism, and poetry. I hope to figure out my niche for Substack soon!
