Payment should be weekly for an hourly charge.
If the project is with a fixed price then Payment divided into 3 parts
20% advance
30% with 50% work
final 50% with 100% work

It can change on the basis of the client.

I always work with some factors like the quality of code, best approaches, discussions on points that are needed with the client in a time period like 1-5 days. Basically meetings are necessary regarding work with the client on calls.
