Hello! I am Soumili Roy, currently in the process of earning my master's degree in development studies. During my undergraduate years, I had the chance to explore a wide range of subjects, from Sociology to Gender Studies and much more. I also got involved in extracurricular activities, like dancing with the Riyaaz Dance Society and volunteering for various social events and conferences. I also took up internships every chance I got, and I've had some enriching work experiences. As a Content Writing Intern at Sociology Group, I delved into diverse sociological topics, crafting articles on society, culture, gender, education, inequality, and politics. At UMEED – A Drop of Hope NGO, I took on a Social Work Intern role, leading an awareness campaign on government schemes, organizing tree plantation drives, and successfully raising funds for the organization. I'm also an Active Listener at 7Cups, providing mental health support through online chats. My volunteer work with Team Everest NGO involved initiatives to encourage kindness in children and care for local birds during the pandemic.
In terms of skills, I'm proficient in English and Hindi and have native proficiency in Bengali. I also have computer skills, including MS Office, programming languages like HTML5, CSS, Java, and design software like Canva. I've earned certifications like "I Know Gender" modules, which I completed with UN Women, focusing on gender awareness. I also took an Art Therapy Introductory Course with Fortis Healthcare & Sukoon Healthcare, and I've dabbled in data science with a course on R Basics from HarvardX (Harvard University via EdX).
Beyond my professional pursuits, I'm an avid fiction reader, constantly exploring different worlds and perspectives. I'm also passionate about fine arts, particularly sketching and painting, where I find solace in artistic expression. Dancing is another one of my interests, and I have a deep appreciation for Indian classical dances like Bharatnatyam and Kathak. These hobbies and interests add a creative and cultural dimension to my life, allowing me to connect with art and expression on a personal level while pursuing a variety of meaningful endeavors.
