Stanley M. Hoffman was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1959. He has lived in the greater Boston area since 1977.

He received degrees in Composition from Brandeis University (Ph.D. 1993), the New England Conservatory of Music (M.M. 1984), and the Boston Conservatory (B.M. Cum Laude 1981).

His biography written by Byron Adams was published on June 24, 2021 in the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians by Oxford University Press.

Bass flute players Peter Sheridan and Judy Diez d’Aux gave the premiere of Arirang Variations (flute duet) in Toronto, on 04/12/2015. Mr. Sheridan also commissioned Prelude and Fughetta (alto flute, organ). He and organist Christopher Trikilis gave the premiere in St. Patrick, Mentone, VIC, Australia on 05/03/2015. Peter Sheridan also recorded the flute duets Meditations and Memories for the MOVE Records CD Monologues and Dialogues, and Arirang Variations for the MOVE Records CD Continental Drift.

The Monkey (a.k.a. Capricorn [clarinet, violin, piano]) is part of the 12-movement work Zodiac: Across the Universe premiered in China for The Zodiac Trio’s 11/2013 10-concert tour. Dr. Hoffman won a co-first place prize in the 2008–09 Longfellow Chorus International Composition Competition for Nature (SATB, piano).
There Is a Name (SA chorus, guitar) was premiered for over 8000 people at the dedication ceremonies of the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston on 10/22/1995. String Quartet (1987) was performed by the Boston Composers String Quartet at Jordan Hall in Boston on 01/29/1989, and in Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall in NYC on 02/12/1989.

He was Senior Editor at ECS Publishing Group where he had edited music since 1998 and was laid off due to the pandemic. Dr. Hoffman also works as a conductor, vocalist, lecturer, private instructor, consultant, and writer.

Per-page rate based on complexity and genre.
You would e-mail scans of FINAL handwritten manuscripts, or Sibelius files, or Finale files, or Dorico files, SCORE files, or PDFs made from any one of these programs.
I would send you a quote.
If you agree, I would engrave the music and e-mail first proofs along with any comments and questions.
After receiving corrected proofs from you by e-mail, I would apply your corrections and send the corrected engraving to you by e-mail for final approval.
Significant composer alterations would be billable at $35/hr.

Tell me about yourself (or send a bio or C.V.) and which subject(s) you wish to study.
You would e-mail your scanned manuscripts, or Sibelius 5 or 6 files, or Finale 2010 files, or PDFs to me (plus optional synthesized sound files, but not in lieu of scores).
After I completes my critique, my comments would be inserted into Sibelius files or PDFs and e-mailed to you along with an invoice.
Hourly rate subject to a mutually agreeable payment structure.
I am amenable to as many rounds as required to bring your compositions or arrangements into excellent condition.
