About

Looking to take advantage of some free time and put my skills to greater use

I quite literally grew up in a machine shop. I started cleaning up steel chips flying off face mills, fly cutters, boring bars, and the like, all around Bridgeports and Prototraks ran by old-timey machinists with a cigarette in their mouth. I was 12 years old. My father had taken over ownership, from his Uncle, of a tool and die machine shop and I was on my way to becoming the third generation to undoubtedly get a smoldering hot chip of P-20 caught in my lip while machining. Even with the writing on the wall being so clear, it wouldn't be until I was 18 years of age to run a piece of carbide over a piece of steel. Even though this moment, this trade, piqued my interest, I've always had a passion for design: Architecture was my first love, and that was the path I wanted to follow. However, with the economic crash being imminent just as soon as graduating high school, and any growth in building/construction coming to a screeching halt, I decided that I was best served in an industry where I had the experience; working for a company that was able to withstand the trials of an economy that decimated manufacturing across the country.
Now, well into a decade of working in the injection molding trade, I've cemented myself with vast knowledge and how-to, with hands on experience within real-life shop environments, earning myself a position at a highly respected manufacturing company in the Chicago land area. My title as Project Engineer was given to me, appropriately, to communicate the idea that I am not only a tool & die guy. Yes, I design injection molds, blow mold, and extrusion dies; I also develop new products for a couple catalogs in various industry, as well as, consulting with customers on our custom manufacturing side-helping create the best, most cost effective, products for their inventory and future projects. I take much pride for what I do for a living; I wouldn't trade it for anything else, including architecture.

Work Terms

Will be working outside of normal working hours. I will be able to communicate through email throughout the day and phone calls at specific times if necessary. Majority of work will be done in the evenings throughout the week or the weekends. I will always keep a due date in mind as I understand the crucial deadlines that we have in this industry.

After agreeing to terms, there will be preliminary drawings for approval, DFM reports if needed, followed by a completed 3D model and 2D prints in any desired format. I will typically send 3D models a couple days before the prints in the event your shop wants to get started on roughing any stock right away.
