We are seeking an experienced Forensic Financial Analyst to lead a detailed review of a private company’s financial projection model and historical accounting records. The goal is twofold:
Uncover unrealistic assumptions or data manipulations used in investment projections, and
Investigate historical financials—including payroll, compensation, and expenses—for signs of misuse, mismanagement, or potential fraud.
This engagement is part of a legal investigation, and findings will be used to inform legal strategy and potential claims related to investor misrepresentation or fiduciary breaches.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze multi-year financial projections for validity, internal consistency, and realism
Trace formulas, assumptions, and inputs across complex Excel models
Reconstruct cash flow, revenue, and margin assumptions to identify inflation or manipulation
Conduct forensic accounting of historical records, including:
Payroll and executive compensation
Expense allocations and vendor payments
Revenue recognition and internal transfers
Compare actual performance against forecasts and budgets
Identify patterns of financial abuse, misstatement, or excessive spending
Summarize findings in a clear, defensible report for legal and strategic use
Required Skills & Experience:
7+ years of experience in forensic accounting, financial modeling, or investigative auditing
CPA and/or CFE preferred; CFA or MBA a strong plus
Deep expertise in Excel modeling, GAAP, and financial statement analysis
Experience supporting legal investigations, shareholder disputes, or investment litigation
Ability to identify red flags in both forecasted and historical financials
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with private or closely held companies
Background in venture-backed or regulated industries
Experience testifying or providing expert reports (not required, but a plus)
