Summary
We’re hiring a senior, hands-on Backend / Technical Lead to take ownership of an existing sports fixtures platform and help get it launch-ready.
This is not a greenfield build. A lot already exists. Parts are live, parts are partially built, and parts need cleanup, hardening, completion, and integration. Your job is to come in, understand the system fast, stabilise what matters, complete what is missing, and keep the whole project moving forward.
This is a backend-first role, but not backend-only. You will also support the PWA rollout, make agreed frontend changes where needed, and help keep later UI/UX and app contributors moving in the right direction.
You are not being hired to single-handedly launch native mobile apps. You are being hired to be the senior technical owner across backend, auth, integrations, PWA, and launch-critical technical delivery.

Contract structure
Initial contract: 4 weeks
Main target: core launch-critical scope completed within the first 3 weeks
Week 4: bug fixing, cleanup, hardening, newly discovered in-scope items, final documentation, handover, and/or kickoff of the next phase if we continue working together
Work schedule
You must be responsive during the working day, raise blockers early, and communicate clearly.

You must be able to:
move quickly from idea to implementation
use AI to accelerate scaffolding, auth flows, admin tools, testing, and refactors
take generated or vibe-coded output and strengthen it to production standard
spot and fix weak AI-generated code, brittle logic, missing validation, bad permissions, and poor maintainability
We want contained sections moving in hours, not drifting for days.
Core responsibilities
You will own and drive:
backend stabilisation and cleanup
Strapi v5 structure and usability
full auth stack
Email/password, Google, Facebook, Apple, OTP by email, venue staff roles
API discipline and stable contracts
venue-owner backend flows
pool and darts modules integration / completion
digital signage / display sync integration
queue-based processing
retries, backoff, reruns, failure visibility
Redis caching and PostgreSQL performance
PWA support and agreed frontend changes where needed
technical support for later app contributors
final documentation and handover
Required experience
You should already have real production experience with most of the below:
Node.js + TypeScript backend development
Strapi v5 custom backend work
PostgreSQL query optimisation / indexing
Redis caching
queues / background jobs / retries / backoff
authentication / RBAC / JWT / provider login flows
stable API design and contract discipline
debugging and stabilising inherited / messy systems
AI-assisted delivery without lowering quality
Nice to have
PWA support experience
Capacitor / app-support experience
observability / error reporting tooling
ability to make practical frontend/admin fixes when needed
