Structural Engineering Review for Dazzling Nights Orlando Show Set
You can access the Scope of Work with image references in the attached file.
A. Project Overview
The engineering scope comprises structural engineering review services for multiple temporary show set elements to be installed at the Dazzling Nights Orlando installation. The scope includes a review of elements based on drawings and models provided.
This document is intended to guide prospective engineers in preparing proposals for this scope.
All Deliverables outlined in this document are due at the latest by September 15th, 2025.
B. Scope of Work
The selected engineering firm will perform structural reviews of the following show elements. Drawings and models will be supplied as requested by the engineer to ensure there is sufficient information to complete each review. Elements are subject to exterior wind loads and, in most cases, potential guest interaction loads. Where allowable by code, temporary wind load criteria may be applied.
The scope includes the following:
1. Entrance Arch
Comprised of off-the-shelf (OTS) aluminum trusses (indicated by red rectangles) with potential corner reinforcement using steel tubing (indicated by green lines)
Includes review of truss connections and proposed anchorage to existing masonry gate columns (assumes construction data for gate columns is available).
Review includes mounting details of snowflake motifs, as well as their overall impact on wind loads.
2. Fiery Solstice
Arches: Three timber arches (12’, 16’, and 20’ scaled variants). One detailed review assumed sufficient for all sizes.
Teepees: Three timber-framed teepees (two identical, one slightly larger).
3. Giant Star
50’ tall aluminum truss structure.
Anchored using wire ropes to deadmen or soil anchors.
Assumes complete details will be provided for custom joints (material types, welds, sizing, etc.)
4. Luminary Arch
Tunnel structure approx. 23’ W x 24’ H x 63’ L.
Primary structure: OTS aluminum truss.
Secondary steel pipe frames with sleeve joints.
Anchored with guy lines and deadmen or soil anchors.
Supports the Flying Angels elements.
5. Flying Angels
Light panels affixed to Luminary Arch (front/rear, side arches, ceiling).
Includes review of attachments and supporting structure.
Structure to be composed of OTS aluminum truss and standard fittings. Flying Angels panels are custom aluminum frames with LED lighting nodes.
6. Photo Opportunity Arch
Welded aluminum frame assemblies, bolted together.
Arch approx. 20’ x 20’.
Supported using rear diagonal bracing down to the ground.
7. Scaffolding Light Town & Market
Approx. 12’ W x 65’ L x 25’ H.
Review of scaffolding system layout, vertical/horizontal spacing, bracing, base loads, and wind loading.
Expected to be clad on the front side with plywood and/or fence scrim.
8. Meetings
Meetings should be available as requested by either party for adequate review of the structures outlined in this scope.
A final review meeting upon completion should also be anticipated and included in the provided quote.
C. Deliverables
The selected engineer will provide:
A signed and sealed engineering review summary letter for all scoped elements.
Only the 7. Scaffolding Light Town and 3. Giant Star will need full engineering reviews of the structures as a whole. All remaining structures require only a basic structural review to indicate relevant forces needed to prevent sliding or tipping, along with recommended approaches to create those forces on the structure.
A structural calculation report for the record.
D. Assumptions & Clarifications
All elements are temporary (approx. 90-day duration).
Construction Administration (CA) and field support are not included or required.
Architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes are excluded.
