5 bad habits that harm your car

$15/hr Starting at $25

When driving daily, motorists perform many of the behaviors they are accustomed to without realizing the extent of their negative impact on the life of the car and the damage caused to it, although these mistakes are not enormate.

Therefore, we monitor for you common mistakes that many car owners make to identify them and avoid doing them in order to preserve the life and value of your car in case you want to return it.

1. Discard the parking brake

Even if you're standing on a flat surface, there's no real reason not to use the parking brake, not engaging the parking brake puts the weight of your entire car on a small piece of metal in the transmission called a parking mace, it's just the size of your finger.

So it can eventually wear or break from carrying so much weight, using a parking brake equalizes the load, helping sensitive transmission components last longer.

2. Leave the gas tank low

Many drivers leave the fuel tank unfilled until it reaches the lowest level, but what you may not know is that paying a small extra amount can help prevent damaging the car's fuel system, many fuel pumps keep cool by staying submerged in fuel in the Tank.

So if you regularly work a quarter full or less, you risk accelerating the need to replace the fuel pump, pushing a little more at the gas station may be painful, but it won't hurt as much as needing a new fuel pump.

3. Abrupt shift from rear to driving

Imagine this you retreat from the parking space, so you have to press the transmission and start moving forward, look familiar? This may not sound too bad at the moment, but over time sudden changes in direction like this can damage your drive system, instead, stop completely before switching, they add only a second of time and will save you a lot starting from future engine, transmission or axle damage.

4. Accelerate before the engine gets warm

Letting your old car sit for a minute or two right after you start is a good idea, it helps distribute oil throughout the engine and raise the temperature of the engine block and engine oil, accelerating the engine will not speed up the process, in fact, it can cause easily avoidable damage.

Cold acceleration causes sudden temperature changes resulting in pressure between tight engine components, just give it 60 seconds before you hit the road, and everything is ready for reliable performance.

5. Pressing the brakes hard

Every car enthusiast is tempted to do a full explosion of the accelerator pedal every now and then, the problem with this is that you usually need to mash on the brakes to slow the rollback, it does not fit for your car, hard acceleration burns a ton of fuel and puts a heavy load on the components of the drive system, the stop of full force causes rapid wear in the brake pads and rotors, resist the urge to drive this way, if you can't, know that repair bills will arrive sooner rather than later.
