My name is Ben Redmond and I was a student in St. Kevin's college, Crumlin in Dublin. I was working on my FETAC level 6 Advanced Certificate in Media Production for the past two years. I'm very skilled in a lot of video editing software. I use Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and Adobe After Effects CS6. I also have a knowledge of Adobe photoshop CS6 if it's needed. On my off Time I like to learn about different techniques of special effects, for example. slit scan which is a photographic and cinematographic process where a moveable slide, into which a slit has been cut, is inserted between the camera and the subject to be photographed. Originally used in static photography to achieve blurriness or deformity, the slit-scan technique was perfected for the creation of spectacular animations. It enables the cinematographer to create a psychedelic flow of colors. it was used in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and used extensively in the "star gate" sequence. I'm also learning about stop motion animation which is a real time sink but it's a process that I miss seeing in films. Ray Harryhausen was the master at this form of animation from Mighty Joe Young (1949), It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) and Clash of the Titans (1981), but some of his best work was on King Kong (1933), a milestone of his films made possible by stop motion animation. As you can see I love film and learning about them, I would like to work as a video editor making corporate videos, so then I have money to make movies I want to see. A quote from Jean-Luc Godard that has always got me was "Photography is truth. The cinema is truth twenty-four times per second." Thanks for Reading.
