For me, being a Chef is so much more than simply cooking food, putting it on a plate, and sending it out to a table. Being a Chef is about hunger, literally and figuratively. Literally yes, you are feeding groups of hungry diners; But 'hunger' means so much more than that. It's a hunger for knowledge, experience, and skill. This craft of cooking requires a devotion to cultivating and nurturing this hunger. Every successful Chef knows that you have to cook for your audience, but what I have learned is that you have to find an intrinsic satisfaction from your work. You in essence, have to 'cook-for-yourself.' Its the satisfaction from the audible crunchy crackle from a freshly baked loaf of bread. Its that pride in honing a knife until it is razor sharp. Its the self-satisfaction from bargaining down 20 cents off the price of vegetables from your supplier. These examples only begin to describe my relationship with this industry.
