Content, Substantive, and Copy-editing

Content editing takes your overall content and makes sure it flows logically and makes sense, but leaves it sounding like you. Substantive editing often happens alongside content editing and looks at logic and clarity. Copy-editing makes your sentences sound smooth and corrects grammar and usage problems. My content, substantive, and copy-editing service includes three to four edits. The first (and possibly the second) looks at your content. I may rearrange paragraphs or suggest new paragraphs. I may point out unnecessary sentences or ask for clarification. I will then hand the document back to you so that you can answer questions and provide your own comments. Depending, we may discuss the manuscript via phone or Skype. The second and/or third edits will fix sentence and voice problems. I may address some additional content problems. And the last edit will focus primarily on typos, but may also include some further copy-editing. Of course, this process is flexible. The editing process is fluid and one person may need more editing in one area than another.

It was easy to work with Miranda. She's straightforward and timely. She has a good system for editing books which includes excellent communication. She maintained communication with me throughout the whole process without being pushy and was very patient with all the changes in my timelines. I found her editing skills very good and she took the time to explain to me my recurrent mistakes so I could learn. She was open to discussion when I didn't agree on something and to provide different solutions. Developmental edits, copy edits and proof editing were great, although I would have appreciated even more stringent developmental edits.
