Scientific and Medical Applications - applications that communicate with some type of hardware, be it an Electron Microscope or a medical device. Trying to build a web application that communicates with hardware is problematic, due to security concerns in most browsers. Also, there is usually one desktop application for every device. 2. Banking and Insurance Applications - these applications can be either desktop or web applications. Examples are payment, teller, bank account and various insurance applications 3. Government and Defense Applications - these applications can be either desktop or web applications. Examples are inventory and workflow applications. 4. Industrial Configurators - these applications are typically desktop applications. They are used by field and sales engineers to configure an architectural product for installation at a customer facility. Examples are HVAC and factory automation. They are also very instrumental in producing the bill of materials, which can be quite complex.
