Many of today’s designs follow a certain standard pattern. People opt for certain kinds of methods because they are easy and are the way things are generally done, without ever questioning why. Most designers don’t look into why people create designs or function with them the way they do, nor do they look for alternatives to standard designs. Architects and interior designers are like the conductors of an orchestra. Not only do they have to know the final product and how it should function, they should also know how the individual components within the space work, and why the users require them in a certain way. They have to know something about everything, even beyond their own field. As students, we go to university thinking along those lines, but somewhere along the way, we forget this in practice. I want to bring this line of thinking back and reinforce it.
