I use Linux as my sole desktop operating system and have experience with setting up Linux servers in the cloud (primarily on Digital Ocean). I am able to do the following:
Write Bash scripts
Perform security updates
Create users, set permissions, etc.
Use SSH
Troubleshoot network issues
Understand and use firewalls, SSL/TLS certificates and best-practices for hardening a server
Use rsync and other tools to perform backup and recovery
Use monitoring tools such as Nagios to monitor memory, disk and CPU usage
My computing experience goes back to the 1970s, when I first started to program (in Fortran). I have written two books on the threaded interpretive language FORTH and, more recently, was commissioned by Manning to work on a book on PostgreSQL. I have extensive experience with both front-end and back-end development (React/Redux/Node/Next/D3).
