Add another player to the high-stakes battleground of electric pickup trucks. Ram Trucks (STLA) introduced the Ram Revolution 1500 EV Concept at CES in Las Vegas, a full-size pickup that will likely mimic a production version that Ram says would be available later this year. The production version, due in 2024, will face fierce competition in the full-size EV pickup segment, with the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV currently on the market. Despite this, the Ram 1500 Revolution boasts some intriguing characteristics. While the concept's "grand saloon" type doors that open out will most certainly not appear in the production version, one innovation that Ram claims is an industry first: third-row jump seats. According to Ram, the truck's powered mid-gate may retract and reveal mounted jump seats, which can also be removed to enable for a variety of flexible seating combinations. Ram also claims that when the mid-gate is retracted, the entire length of the vehicle is open for long cargo, allowing for a pass-through (including the frunk) that can accommodate objects up to 18 feet long. According to Ram, the concept is based on the STLA Frame body-on-frame chassis designed particularly for electric vehicles, and it will contain two electric drive modules (EDMs) to enable all-wheel drive. No additional details were revealed at the unveiling, although the vehicle is expected to have similar features and pricing to the competitors. Ram claims it encountered a variety of hurdles in developing an electric pickup truck that would appeal to its customers. "First and foremost, battery packaging, because the batteries are very, very heavy," said Mike , Ram Brands CEO, in an interview with Yahoo Finance from Las Vegas, discussing one of the most difficult obstacles. "I believe that research continues to suggest and support that trucking intenders, and even current buyers, are becoming more open to the idea of electrification in their pickups, but they tell us time and time again, please do not compromise, do not sacrifice the core attributes that we care about the most — which historically have been the most important. According to Koval, range and charge time are important client wishes, thus Ram engineers had to design an architecture that could sustain the battery weight.  Ram engineers were able to enlarge the interior by 4 inches due to the smaller electric motors used, which is significant in the automotive sector for generating more space and elegance in the cabin. Ram trucks are known for having some of the nicest, if not the best, interiors of any truck series, and Koval believes that part of the equation will remain in any truck they create
