I have a PhD in Film and Creative Writing from the University of Birmingham (UK), as well as an MA in Creative Writing from the same institution. I currently work as a mentor at the University of Birmingham where I provided professional advice to students about how to write a CVs, cover letters, personal statements and admission letters for a university applications (undergraduate, Masters and PhD level) and gain success from it. I also guide them through the application process. 95% of the students that I have helped have been accepted to the universities that they have applied for. Previously I worked as a research assistant where I was given the opportunity to mark essays (IELTS, TOEFL, undergraduate level) During this role I pointed out the issues and elaborated on the reasons of the mistakes, suggesting ways that they could be fixed. I also graded the essays. I have previously worked at an online newspaper firm as an editor and proofreader. I have previously worked as a proofreader at an English newspaper company (KP Daily News) in Cyprus were my role revolved around identifying and correcting spelling mistakes, typos, grammatical inaccuracies and issues with the structure, in order to bring each piece of news to a perfect standard for publication on the newspaper's website. The act of proofreading gave me the opportunity to exercise my ability to pay close attention to detail and portray attentive and close reading. Moreover, my role required excellent time management skills, as I had to be up-to-date with the news; translating, editing and proofreading towards strict deadlines. As I was undertaking three separate roles I had to prioritise and manage my own workload. This required being highly organised and planning in advance, which allowed me to complete each task successfully on time. Throughout my education, I have completed several creative and academic pieces, including: two novels, a short story collection, articles, essays, reviews of books and films and a screenplay. Many of my short stories and articles have been published in the University of Birmingham’s literary journals. My PhD has given me the chance to work with long, complex projects as during this three year period I have successfully completed an 80,000 word novel and a 60,000 word critical piece. I have a strong knowledge of research as during my 8 year journey in higher education, the vast number of texts I have written cover a broad range of topics, from psychology, sociology, politics, word literature, linguistics, critical analysis, archaeology and religious studies.
