The President of the European Commission

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has unexpectedly spoken out against a comprehensive and immediate ban on Russian oil supplies, which the official indicated the EU could not impose.

The European official expressed her opinion during her participation in a program on MSNBC, and according to the President of the European Commission, "the imposition of the European Union embargo on Russian oil will help Moscow achieve additional revenues."

"If the European Union agrees to ban the supply of Russian oil, Russia will likely be able to transfer the oil that it does not sell to the EU to the global market, where prices will rise, and get a large amount for it," the official said.

She noted that Europe would completely abandon energy from Russia "over time", but did not explain when exactly this would happen.

Earlier, foreign media reported that Russia may get an additional $100 billion in revenue in 2022 for gas supplies to Europe, due to the sharp rise in prices.

The European Union had intended to impose an embargo on Russian oil as part of the sixth package of sanctions against Moscow, but European countries opposed the move, so the embargo has not yet been imposed.
