The United States tops the list of countries that suffer the most from weather disasters for many reasons, some related to geography and others to the behavior of immigrants. Many experts said the United States is affected by more severe, costly, diverse and frequent extreme weather than anywhere on the planet, and this translates into the number of deaths due to separate weather events as well as the overall cost of the events. The total damages from the disasters in 2022 amounted to about $165.1 billion, with the costliest events being Hurricane Ian ($112.9 billion) and the western and central drought/heat wave ($22.1 billion).
