My name is Bereket Mihreteab Hailemichael, a dedicated and multilingual professional based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a strong background in civil engineering, social work, and language services. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (2014–2019) and have built a diverse career that spans community development, project management, and linguistic services.
I began my professional journey as a social worker and vice manager at the Negeste Axum Child and Community Development Association (NACCDA), where I played a key role in project planning, monitoring, and empowering vulnerable families through community-focused initiatives. I later transitioned to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency, where I currently serve as an Interpreter/Translator. In this role, I provide high-quality interpretation and translation services in Tigrinya, Amharic, and English for clients from the Canadian Migration Office, the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs, and the French Migration Department.
My skills include exceptional verbal and written communication, strong teamwork, and a quick ability to adapt to new technologies and tasks. I am particularly experienced in transcribing and annotating audio in multiple languages and have a growing interest in subtitling.
Hobbies and Interests:
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring language technology, creating subtitles, and engaging in volunteer work that supports my community. I am passionate about storytelling, both in written and spoken forms, and find joy in learning about cultures and histories through language.
