About

I'm an experienced product manager making a career transition to web development, and I'm eager to contribute my passion for creative logic to building elegant websites and apps.

In my current job, I have remotely managed the development of a high-volume assessment and job placement app for companies in the US and UK. During that time, I gained an interest in learning how to create my own sites and apps, and have spent a year learning Ruby on Rails and creating websites on the side.

Most recently, I designed and developed a UI prototype with Bootstrap and jQuery for a new user type. I completed the project over a weekend, and it is currently under review for a federal grant. Thanks to my familiarity with framework interactions from learning Ruby on Rails, I was also able to create a map of how all of the models would interact in a future app so that my company can clearly describe the project to other developers.

To date, I have had a major role in designing and developing three apps and six websites. I regularly put my analytical skills into practice through test-driven development, debugging, and optimization, and enjoy helping newer developers learn to do the same. I also have the advantage of having been in your shoes as a product owner. As such, I understand the potential frustration and blind spots in working with developers, especially remotely. In my experience, proactive communication is just as important as writing clean, sustainable code. Through thorough analysis of your project's needs and a detailed, realistic projection of the work required to meet your goals, I can provide you with excellent design, development, testing, and maintenance.

Work Terms

I divide projects into discrete, clear objectives. Rather than charging an hourly rate, I prefer to set a price for each iteration and feature. That way, if a certain bug takes an inordinate amount of time to fix, you do not have to bear the burden, and you will also have a clear sense of the value of each feature. Completing the project in small pieces also ensures that it will be easy to change course if you have new ideas during development, which would otherwise be very costly. I do testing, deployment, and maintenance as well, so for a year after launching, you can always contact me if there are any issues. I write clean code with thorough commentary and READMEs, so if another developer ever needs to work with what I've created, it will be easy for them as well.
