-Fundamental, bottom-up equity research analyst on the buy-side (long/short equity); also worked in private equity covering venture capital, distressed debt & restructurings, and special situations
-Investment evaluation varies by business model, but I begin w/macroeconomic, top down analysis to identify themes & geographies of interest, followed by:
*Deep company specific research: interview/evaluate company management, assess their competence, corporate governance, & incentive structures; analyze cash flow trends relative to earnings & KPIs, evaluate capital structure and sector and cyclical exposures, customer/supplier concentration
*Seek companies with a sustainable competitive edge over the L/T, evaluate competition with greater resources or market access
*Identify unique businesses in nascent stage markets or those undergoing significant transformation whose products are undiscovered or misunderstood by the investment community
*Invest based on insights unknown to the street / investment market (value, GARP approach)
