I love building software! That's the main thing I have learned about myself after more than 20 years of being in the 'biz'. Of course, these days, 'software' is a term that covers a pretty big landscape. And I did a lot of discovering before being certain to have found the sweet spot that works best for me with enough challenges and diversity to sooth my personality. Interestingly enough, where I ended up, is pretty close to where I started. My first project was really an IOT solution 'avant-la-lettre'. It was a fairly small project just right for 1 person to do it all by himself: I wrote a small piece of embedded software for a psion handheld that allowed users to collect data This data was then transmitted to a central server where it was processed and stored so that it could be viewed and browsed and aggregated through from some custom software. From there, I first moved on to developing front-end applications (still desktop software) for calibration software and a statistical package. This slowly moved more into the machine learning area.
Eventually, I co-started a Belgian business round the whole IOT concept. As this was years before Amazon or Microsoft were doing anything with IOT, we had to come up with everything ourselves, which was an incredible learning experience.
Now that this business has been sold, I believe the time has come for me to start sharing all this experience I have built up round embedded development, machine learning and IOT
